Hi,

Tyson here. In 2021, Cat Positive released our debut album The Star Thief. Looking back now, sitting in my office and putting out that record five years ago feels like a lifetime away. So much about music—and the world—has flipped upside down since then. In spite of all that, I’m deeply grateful the band is still going strong, and that we recently released our new album, Electric City Boxing Club.

When we pressed Electric City Boxing Club on vinyl in June, it made me think back to The Star Thief. I had originally wanted to press it on vinyl in 2021, but ultimately decided against it. Since 2026 marks the 5-year anniversary of The Star Thief, I’m excited to announce that it will finally be getting a vinyl pressing!

Based on the modest but meaningful interest in our second LP, I’ve decided to launch a Kickstarter to fund a smaller vinyl pressing of our first album. The goal is simple: cover the costs of pressing the records, send them to those who want a copy, and have some available at our merch table for future shows.

Here’s what I wrote about The Star Thief when it was first released:

My new album "The Star Thief" took over 5 years and 11 musicians to make. Whenever I could find the space or the time, I would book sessions and chip away at these recordings. The result is an 11-song album that uses science fiction and astronomy as a backdrop for characters whose lives and universe are starting to unravel. They find themselves staring into uncertainty.

Over the past few years, I’ve taken a slow-and-steady, weekend-warrior approach to music. Since I’ve always had another job and never relied on music as a livelihood, my projects have unfolded whenever I’ve had the time and space to nurture them. That distance has kept me going, even as I’ve watched many talented musicians come and go—some with great promise, some with real success. What’s kept me moving forward has simply been a love of the work.

Thank you for supporting this project and for standing by our band over the last five years. Having music as an outlet has been such a gift, and I don’t take it for granted.

P.S. Did you know that short-run vinyl pressings actually cost more per record than printing way more copies than you could ever sell? Funny, right? But it’s true. If we reach our goal, this will be a very limited run. If we exceed it, we’ll be able to press more records and keep inventory for the next few years—which would also be amazing.
